About Us

About The Courage Project

The Courage Project is a Stanford student group, intent on spreading their enthusiasm for heroic service. Many students have the desire to do something meaningful. Despite our involvement in various community service activities, however, we often yearn for something more impactful and of a greater scale. We found this opportunity in the Courage Project.

The Courage Project aims to create an online publication of vetted service oriented activities that are extraordinary in their impact, in order to share these with many others with a similar desire to serve. We seek to find courageous and compassionate people who are committed to our vision of helping others find opportunities for service that are high impact and meaningful. Academic credit and/or wages of $12 per hour may be available for qualifying students.

About Website

We work under the assumption that there are others out there who have the desire to do something courageous. However, when people feel this urge, it is so often quelled by short lived and self serving courageous acts such as skydiving or bungee jumping. We believe that if we can harness this urge, we can utilize it for good causes.

We have listed on our website 7 areas in which one can act heroically in so that we can cater most to your interests: Human Rights, Journalism, Legal Heroism, NGO's, Transplantation, Vaccination, and Well Leveraged Medical Research. Under each area there is some background information on the topic, opportunities that pertain to the area, and profiles of people who have performed courageous acts. The information displayed on this website is obtained by intensive research on the web and in relevant books.

Jennifer Miller

LCK_5604_copy_3

Now a medical student at Stanford University, Jennifer Miller graduated with a BA from Stanford in Human Biology in 2005, with a focus in International Health. She co-founded BeAGoodDoctor in 2002 in an effort to provide premedical and medical students with the ability to make an informed decision on their career choice and to create a more cooperative and noble premedical community.

Along the way, Jennifer has confirmed her own desire to become a physician through a myriad of experiences with patients, physicians, and other health workers in the bay area, Nepal, and Honduras, and now Ghana through KaeMe, a new BeAGoodDoctor program. Jennifer is interested in travel as a means of expanding cultural awareness and language ability, and for her Fulbright Fellowship started the Roatan Clinical and Public Health Internship (RCPHI), later renamed HEAL (Health Education & Advocacy Liaisons) in Honduras  for undergraduates and medical students (see http://www.roatanclinic.org/heal/healindex.html).

Jennifer plans to build a life in which she is constantly serving, growing, researching questions, teaching, and creating needed medical and educational programs. In her free time, she enjoys hiking (especially in Yosemite and to local hot springs), dancing (salsa & swing are her favorites), and a hammock/good book combo. She loves talking with other students about their goals and aspirations, and welcomes you to email her with any and all questions.
